Great pizza and cheap beer. What more can you ask for?

I visit CJ's on occasion, and the brews are always great. My wife and I went to CJ's this weekend with family, and dined al fresco. It was a lot of fun, 'til the mosquitos come out - Yarr!! We had the Beer Batter Cheese Sticks and the Chicken Romano pizza. The cheese sticks were perfect. Lightly battered, and delicious. I consider myself a pizza freak, and the Chicken Romano pizza was great! It comes topped with chicken, oregano, basil, cheese, tomatoes, yellow mild banana peppers, red onions and parmesan cheese with a butter crust (pulled from the menu). Of course, we all had beer while we were there. Most of us got the American Wheat, and the Summer Wheat (seasonal). I loved the Summer Wheat - very refreshing and had just enough citrus kick, and at almost 7% abv, it was a smooth beer. Looking forward to going back. Only drawback from the evening was that they were out of growlers. Couldn't take any of CJ's beer home with me :0(

CJ's is nothing fancy or upscale but the draw is the beer which is brewed on location and is the freshest even compared to what I can make myself. Join the Mug Club and the glasses get bigger. The food is great except I don't care for the burgers(something with the seasoning) but the rest of the food is fine and generous portions. I recommend trying it out for a family dinner or belly up to the bar for a mug.

If you like a strong IPA then you must try it out. My favorite menu items are the flat iron steak and the deep dish pizza, specifically the CJ's Supreme. Great Service ad well.

Great atmosphere, good location (since there's very few decent resturaunts nearby) and pretty good food. The pizza is the best thing they serve, hands down. I wouldn't say it's a 'must visit' but, if it tells you anything, it was a nice enough atmosphere that we had our wedding rehersal dinner in their 'group' room...Pretty good stuff.

CJ's has become one of our fallback standards when we want good food but don't want to drive too far. On our most recent visit they were running two lunch specials. A black n blue burger and a buffalo chicken sandwich. I'd been craving blackened fish, but after reading the special board I had to have the burger. It was juicy and well blackened, a little heat and flavor but not so much it burned. Then the blue cheese worked in with it and oh my! They really should have this baby on the menu all the time. Quite easily the best thing I've eaten there! My husband tried the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was really good. What set it apart was that they put avocado slices on it. My husband is not a fan of avocado but I convinced him to give it a try and he admitted it was a really good combination. It paired well with the hot sauce and the texture contrast was nice too. He even said he'd order buffalo sandwiches that way in the future! That's a huge compliment! Some of the other items we've really liked at CJ's were the fish and chips, the cap'n crunch chicken (seriously sinful and all kinds of awesome!), the burgers (hello Eddie!), the nachos (exactly what pub nachos should be), and the pizza. But the most have is the rootbeer. We love to try homemade rootbeers and this has to be one of the best we've found. A lot of other places try to make one flavor note stronger than the rest, often the peppermint (gag!), but CJ's has a nice balance while still having a strong yet lush flavor. It's thick, it's smooth, it's not over carbonated, there's a nice warmth of spice and sweetness of vanilla...it's about perfect! Seriously, we've bought the Growlers (yes, plural) and taken them on trips with us. When we moved away for a few years we'd snag a couple growlers when we visited to take back home with us. And this was one of the first places we hit up when we moved back to MI. Good food, great rootbeer, always good service...what more can you ask for? Oh yeah, check out the daily specials for food and beer. And this place is very kid friendly if you go a little early before the bar gets going.

Delicious deep dish pizza. We'll definitely be back.

We are new to the area and we were looking for a place exactly like this! Great beer, great deep dish pizza, and kid friendly. We joined the mug club and have enjoyed the benefits many times over.

I love this place. Every time I go here i eat so much pizza they have to roll me out out here. Their carnivore deep dish pizza is the best pizza i have had. They brew a pretty damn good stout. And they have this cookie icecream desert that i love. I think this might be one of those places that I over rank but whatever I LOVE IT.

Good beer. Mediocre food. I had a chicken breast...thing...once that was drowning in money mustard - basically inedible. Also had a good burger. Better than most of the Coney Islands I've been in. Note: what is it with this state and Coney Islands? They almost universally suck. My advice - stick with simple foods and you'll be OK. Anything else and food is on par with a Chili's. Still, thumbs up for the beer.

CJ's never, and I mean, NEVER disappoints us. Great food, great beer, great service. Outdoor seating in the summer, cozy booths in the winter. Great app's, burgers and pizza.

not a big beer fan, bar area is a bit too small, but lots of tvs.

Awesome pizza and beer! The Michigan Cherry salad was huge, so my husband and I split it. However, they charge $1.50 to split, which seems odd because it does not come in a dinner size portion. Also, we asked for extra sauce on the pizza and it seemed like they put less sauce on. The "extra sauce" was $0.50 extra. Overall the pizza was great, but they will nickel and dime you, where most places do not. Must be the economy... For the beer, I really liked the Scotch Ale, Wheat and IPA. Really great body and flavor for these three. Also, their website notes that a second CJ's will be opening in Plymouth at the Compuware Ice Arena.

If this place was in Ann Arbor or Royal oak it would only be 3 star worthy, but it gains a star due to the lack of choices in the Commerce/West Bloomfield area. CJ's is the only Brew Pub for miles in the heart of Oakland county. I love CJ's location as I frequent the area. Their food is reasonably priced and pretty good compared to other options out in Commerce. The pizza is pretty good (a step up from Dominos) but that is about it, nothing amazing. The beer lacks complexity and some of the brews are downright boring. Their American Wheat is usually the standard fare for me as I feel it is their best beer (while not the most complex wheat beer out there). I feel that the stout and golden ale are just not good choices here. If you really want a good beer, head out to the brew pubs in Royal Oak, Plymouth, or Ann Arbor.

We go here often enough to have tried many of the things on the menu. 1/2 Great! 1/2 just VERY ordinary. The beer, the pizza, the nachos - all outstanding. The fish and chips was greasy and over-cooked twice. The first time I sent it back and they brought out a fresh batch that was not overcooked but still plain and too greasy. The second night we ordered it came out overcooked, we paid for it, but were very disappointed. Got salads tonight. The greens were ok. The caesar dressing very ordinary. Not enough garlic or anchovies. The bread sticks were cold. Croutons were stale. The chicken had a nice grilled flavor but wasn't very tender. Needed to be marinated. They could really step this up to be awesome! Its well worth the trip for the nachos and the beer in our book, but hoping that they will keep improving.

As far as food goes I am pretty happy. Never had any issues where something didn't taste right or just wasn't good overall. If you are a burger person I suggest the Eddie Burger as it is our goto meal when we visit. On occasion sometimes the services can be slow even in non busy times which is why they got a 4 instead of a 5. Overall still a great place to eat and their beer is also pretty good.

This place is the best we been here at least 20 times. Great people, great service, and especially great food. I always get the all you can eat fried Alaskan cod fish its like heaven in you mouth. Next time you pass one you better order this because the batter is there very own beer batter!

CJ's Brewery is a great place to meet up with friends for a beer or a relaxed dinner. The menu is solid with delicious pizza, sandwiches and creative main dishes. Check out this link for my full review. examiner.com/restaurants…

I previously wrote a scathing review of CJ's, and it was well deserved at the time. Three years later I finally gave this place a second chance, and I'm glad I did. We went here this past Friday with some friends after work for dinner. Unlike my last experience the food was delicious and the beer was good. I again tried the beer sampler, and this time did not find a single one that I disliked. We'll definitely be back, though maybe when its a little slower. My only dislike this time was the smell of the place. You enter through the bar area which smells of spilled and spoiled beer. Plus it was a Friday during Lent, so the smell of fried fish mixed with stale beer reminded me of sweaty feet. We waited outside for 30 minutes for a table because I couldn't stand the smell.

I have been hearing for awhile now that CJ's in the place to be for pizza and beer. So yesterday after a couple of baskets of balls at the nearby driving range we decided to give it a try. Some things impressed me beyond belief and others really let me down. Lets start out with the beer, since that's how I started out in the restaurant. Having never been here before and not being familiar with their beer I ordered the beer sampler to give everything a try. Honestly, one by one, I was let down. The stout tasted too young and really lacked the desirable characteristics you look for with a stout, it just tasted like watered down coffee with a bit of sourness. The golden ale just tasted like a bad budwieser, the wheat was probably the best but still lacked the depth I would have expected. There were others that aren't worth mentioning too but the absolute worst was the IPA. Uggh.. I have never tasted such a disgusting beer. I don't see how anyone could come in and order a full mug of something that tasted like spikey orange marmalade. So the beer isn't so good, but if I came back I'd order the wheat as it was the best of the worst. Now onto the food. My wife and her sister ordered the chicken tortilla soup, and I got the beer onion soup. I tasted her tortilla soup and it was amazing, but my beer onion soup was seriously the best french onion variation I have ever tasted. It was served in a crock with provalone and swiss melted on top of croutons as you would usually see a french onion, but the soup itself was simply amazing. Simple, rustic, comfort food. I highly recommend trying it if you go. My wife and her sister ordered a small round cheese pizza and myself and my brother in law ordered the CJ's supreme pizza, deep dish. People were right, this pizza is delicious. The toppings were all slightly browned, crispy little pepperoni, nicely browned pieces of ham and sausage, onion and green pepper. It was outstanding. Overall, I'm giving CJ's 4 stars because they deserve them for the food and their location. They are in the heart of the main hub between Novi and Waterford/Commerce/Pontiac. Their food is really the reason to go and you could just disregard the whole brewery thing, that's not really working out for them very well.

Killer pizza! Seriously now, I take my pizza very seriously. The deep dish pizza at CJ's is a definate local favorite. I am not sure how they got it so good considering they got almost the entire rest of the menu wrong. With the exception of good burgers I would say the food is no good at all. The beer should be better. It is a brewery. I am not saying it is not good, I am saying that it is not as good as it could be. The service is good and the atmosphere is good also. Family friendly.

The beer is getting better, we drank both IPA & American wheat & both are excellent, the food & the service are very good, the Pizza is well worth eating.

Everyone has their local watering hole, don't they? Well either way, I consider CJ's Brewing Company in Commerce Township to be mine. I have spent a lot of time there (if you consider once a week a lot) enjoying their tasty food and great beer while in good company. In addition to meeting the basic requirements to be a local watering hole; CJ's also has quality service, fair pricing, enticing specials and a cozy bar and patio. CJ's is your typical bar menu with good appetizers, salads, burgers and (really good) pizza. You can get a pint of beer for or grab a growler (half off refill on Tuesday), I love the American Wheat and Golden Lager. Their specials are worth noting... Appetizers are half off until 6pm every day (with exception to their fish tacos & bangin shrimp). Monday is buy one get one half off pizza with the purchase of a beverage and Tuesday is Burger night with the same deal. Wednesday is Mexican Night... $4 margaritas, $1.50 tacos, $10 fajitas and $6 burritos and Friday is all you can eat Fish & Chips. I am obsessed with their pizza (the ranch is outstanding as well)... deep dish or round, you can't go wrong. With six freshly brewed beers on tap at all times, a full board of daily specials, a big bar, large restaurant and an adorable, shaded patio, CJ's is the perfect place to post up... eat, drink and chill. If you decide to become a frequent visitor to CJ's, I suggest purchasing the Mug Club membership. For $50 (lifetime) or $30 (a year), you get a little card and spend less money on a lot more beer. Once you declare this your place, they don't even ask you for your card, making you feel like a real regular.

Decent food, but nothing remarkable. Good beer and a good family atmosphere. Large restaurant so it's not hard to find a table. Servers are friendly.

The boys got the fish and chips and chicken tenders meals. My daughter and I ordered Michigan Chicken salad chicken on the side, and a blackened salmon salad. Everything was prepared as requested. Salads are big and fresh. We have never been disappointed by CJ's. Happy hour there rocks! We had a cool waiter who came by our table and said that Happy Hour was ending in 5 min and did we want another drink. Heck yes we do, and he pre assumed and handed us drinks. Now that is a good waiter! Cant remember his name but could pick him out of a line up! So I End my review with soooo good! Enjoy.

Not sure what to think of this place. It's been a long time since we return, over ten years, but we dropped by a couple of weeks ago. CJ's to their credit has been around for a long time, 20 years, being a micro brewery before it was a trend. It's a fairly large place, with the brewing vats up front and in view. It's location can be awkward, especially turning left from Hagerty road. There are probably 50 -60 booth/tables, and it was busy. It was actually a bit of a zoo, with a couple of youth baseball teams running all over the place, inside and out, and there parents letting them. They had 6-8 beer options, no cider, and wine. They have a big menu, with plenty of pizza, salads and burgers/sandwiches. Honestly, not much more than bar food, but the focus is on the beer. It is a young wait staff, who get distracted playing with each other. So, not a bad place to go if you are in the mood for a microbrewery. It will be loud and active - look for their specials.

Very poor service. We sat in the bar area where the bar tender ignored us. His priority was serving his drunk friends. We eventually got up and left

A brewery with pretty good food. It's what one would expect of a local brewery, minus the pretentiousness of the trendier over-hyped other ones around. This is a more casual atmosphere with a decent enough selection of beers for a non-connoisseur occasional only beer drinker like myself. The die hard beer aficionados and IPA snobs may disagree, but, being neither, I couldn't care less. The food is decent and reasonably priced, for what it is, and I've never had a bad experience. For some reason, I find the pizza to not only be consistently the best thing on the menu, but also the best pizza for the price around! Weird, I know, but it really is surprisingly good! Thick or thin crust doesn't seem to matter - it's just really good pizza! For about half the cost of Buddy's, it's every bit as good, if not better!

    (4)
  • Gene G.

Decent beer, ok food, ok atmosphere. They certainly have the potential, but should pay more attention to food - it's not bad, just bland.

One of my favorite places to go!!! The best seasoned fries I have ever had. I love the beer here too! The deep dish BBQ chicken pizza is by far the best pizza I've ever had. Also prices are not bad at all! Nice local place to go to enjoy drinks with friends and watch some sports if you want :)

Decided to check out CJs for the first time after constantly hearing about it from raving coworkers, friends, etc. My FSIL and I stopped in on Sunday night around dinner time. There were a fair amount of people in the place and we were seated quickly. Overall I would just say that this place is kinda "meh". We ordered spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer and I have to admit, I was a little grossed out by the pool of oil/grease/butter/whatever that had settled on top. I had hoped that stirring it a bit would make it easier to eat - I was wrong. That paired with the greasy chips set me up for a serious case of gut rot later on that night... Both entrees were good, waitress was great - super attentive and helped us with any questions that we had. I wish I could remember her name. I could be persuaded to give this place another try, but something tells me I won't be rushing back any time soon.

One of my favorite places. Everything I've tried was great, pizza, banging shrimp, beer onion soup, classic club and the Eddie burger are some of my favorites. Their IPA is really good too, overall awesome place to eat and hang out. Love the outdoor patio.

  • David D.

Very much enjoyed this micro-brewery / restaurant. Solid, wide-ranging menu and great beers brewed on-site. IPA and Stout were both very good. I'd hoped to try the red ale as well, but the tap was dry, so I went with their serviceable lager. Decor was pleasant and service was good. Food emerged quickly and was hot and tasty...

  • Jen S.

Pretty yummy for a brewery. Nachos are delicious. Portion of salmon on the salmon salad could be larger. Wish they carried Tito's vodka!!! Burgers really yummy too! Give it a try!!!!!

    (3)
  • Scott S.

Good beer selection, that's the main selling point. We only stopped for an app and drinks, so the app was the nachos with chicken. I won't say they were bad, just mediocre. I look at pub nachos as an opportunity for a place to put their individual stamp on their menus. Maybe I'm reading too much into what is an awesome app, but either way, these were simply mediocre. Standard tortilla chips from a supply house, c'mon you can do better, inconsistent temperature of ingredients, overall kind of bland. I liked the beer and the service was good, but I would look twice.

Beers are good. The beer sampler is very nice. Foods is hit or miss. Avoid the burgers, one of two I had were DRY. (overcooked, maybe old?) Salad with salmon... Salmon was thin dry and too spicy. Pizzas seem good. Fries are good. THE BEER IS GOOD!

I grew up in the area, even attending this place after every home volleyball game with the entire team and parents in high school, over 10 years ago. Hadn't been back until this week. I must say, I now know why our parents loved it so much. My hubby and I started with a beer sampler each along with the calamari app. All was fantastic! Our fast fav brew was the lower straits stout. We even picked up a to-go Growler( 64oz. Jug.of beer that can be refilled). Service was great from the gal who seated us quickly to the server and even the bus boy who was friendly and helpful. We ate a veggie wrap and a salad with salmon which were all great! I also have heard the pizza is great too. Their mug club seems super worth it and we will surely join. A local gem!

  • David M.

Love this place. Pizzas are fantastic and if you feel like pleasant change clothes for the BLT, really good. They will also do a thin crust if you ask. The Captain Crunch Chicken can sometimes be a little heavy on the sauce, so I get it on the side, and it's great. All draft beers are brewed on the premises, there a few that are always on but they often make some short run stuff.

  • Dan S.

The food is amazing. Obviously I haven't had everything on the menu but everything I have had was so good. And the beers on tap are on point.

Walked into the place with two other beer drinkers n walked up to the bar and we were completed ignored by several bartenders. We waited 15 mns to try to get some service and walked out dry. Pathetic because it looked like a good place

  • Zak B.

CJs is an awesome place to put down your cellphones, get of social network and talk with the people in your life. The micro brewery is really what makes this place amazing. Each beer has its own personality and you would be able to easily tell the difference between all the beers. The service is fast and friendly every time. The food is 8/10. I recommend the square pizzas. But the burgers are great too. The atmosphere is also what makes this place so fun. When you walk inside you forget where you are. You feel like you are in a tavern in the mountains somewhere. And then you walk outside and realize you have to go back to work. But when you drive by you'll want to go in again ad escape the world.

This is my first 5-star review! Why? Because the food and beer were absolutely fantastic! Try the jambalaya..,even if you're an expert. It is fresh and delicious. Plenty of everything (chicken, sausage, shrimp). I've eaten it in Louisiana and still liked it better here. The perfect amount of heat! The noise level is a bit high on Saturday nights...but that's just because everyone is so busy having a good time. We tried 4 beers and every one was delicious. Rich-Hagg Red, Strong Scotch Ale, American Wheat, and Lower-Straights Stout. Excellent! Come here!!!!

Great beer and great pizza, I haven't found any food here I don't like. The seasonal beers are awesome, stopped by tonight to have a winter brew but they were out, very popular, had a Rich - Hagg red real good. Pizza is always good, there squares are awesome. Also really enjoy stopping after work to meet buddies to enjoy a few cold ones.

Great pizza, good beer, what more can you ask for. Try the Lower Straits beer, and have them do half and half pizza so you can try two of their great flavors. The only one I did not like was the BBQ pizza but others liked it so its just not to my taste.

  • Leigh W.

They have the best "Detroit Style Pizza" around. Perfect crust - I wouldn't order anything else there (I think the rest is straight off of the Sysco menu, except maybe the Jambalaya which has been mentioned by a few.) You can't go wrong with local beer! Service can run hot/cold. Happy they have been around for so long, so great to have a local brewpub to call our own!

  • Shelby H.

I liked the variety of beer and the environment. I ordered a pizza, not deep dish, and thought it was good but not great. Also, the wait staff was friendly. I'll be back for the beer selection and to try more of the menu.

Beer: Haven't had a bad one yet; but I'll keep trying for Yelp's sake. Their Wheat's are my favorite. Growlers are great. Grab one when you're picking up a pizza. Pizza: Deep Dish is awesome. My Wife loves the Veggie (so that's what we usually get). But the Hawaiian is awesome, and so is the Buffalo Chicken w/ Franks Red Hot. Don't forget to order the Cheesy Bread; it's really good. Food: it's just so-so. Generic American. The "All You Can Eat Fish" is bad; it's the fish sandwich patty without the bun (and the fish sandwich is not great either) Just order a pizza. Parking: The Parking lot is tiny; Carpool or be prepared to circle for an open spot. Conclusion: Order a take-out Pizza with Cheesy Bread and a Growler.

Baseball, Beer, Pizza, Chicken Wings and Ford! I like this slogan much better. Met up with a couple of friends who were treating me to lunch for getting a new job at Ford. We decided to catch a Tigers game then head on across the street for a round of golf. This is a great sports bar with all the tv's, beer choices, and waitresses in skimpy clothes, well two out of three aint bad (you figure out which two). I followed the advice of several reviewers who recommended the deep dish pizza. Damn, that was good! I had it loaded with all the choices of meat! No fungus would be found on my pizza. Since this was a microbrewery I tried one of the fan favorites, American Wheat. Not a bad brew. After that I decided to go with a standard domestic choice (in other words whatever my buddies ordered in the pitcher). I also tried their HOT boneless wings, excellent! The service was good, place was clean, and I will be definitely going back.

Nothing has changed (for the better): You have one bad experience nine years ago, so you give it time and a second chance only to relive the same experience again. We were greeted with a friendly hello from the hostess. It falls off from here. After being seated in a comfortable booth, we patiently waited for a server as promised by said hostess. After 15 minutes pass, we finally flag down a server (who passed our table a dozen times during the wait.) She said she didn't notice us sitting there and that perhaps this table was another server's. She decided to wait on us anyways. Being a customer by default rarely lends a positive experience. We order, get our beverages, and do not see her again for 25 minutes until the food arrives and then we do not see her again for another 25 minutes to flag her for the check. The food. My wife ordered fish and chips which were just so-so. The batter was homemade but the cod fish overall was way greasy. The fries were also battered and tasted like the fish. Note to CJ's: Try two different fryers for better results. I had the deep-dish pizza which was respectable. We also ordered a Caesar, just standard lettuce, cheese, and dressing) salad to split as a precursor to the meal. This was served with our entrees instead of before hand which the server then blamed the cooks for not having it prepared for her to bring out. A poor explanation to cover poor service. By the way, our beverages were never refilled nor were offered or even given a real chance to request this. I spoke with the manager, as did two other customers in our half-full section. He agreed that the service was lackluster and comped us the cost of the pizza. I have always felt it better for managers to be proactive instead of reactive. I couldn't imagine apologizing and putting out "fires" as a way to do a job. He did little to assist the troubled servers or clear the messy tables, one which sat this way for over 30 minutes. The beer (after all it is a brewery) was a no go for me. I would normally order the sampler but they were out of 3 of the 6 beers. I inquired to our estranged server who neither knew the price, the available brews, or whether it is even available. She just knew they were out of the three beers. Again, this is a brew pub. This place is local and should be the Commerce version of a Cheers. Instead it's a disappointing from the moment you are handed from the hostess. Skip CJ's and try some place else.

Have been frequenting CJ's for several years, but I suspect they have a new chef because lately (last 2 months), the food quality has skyrocketed. The Cobb Salad with chicken is outstanding, huge and downright cheap -- less than $10. The beer is always wonderful and after a round at Bay Pointe (across the street) the pints of American Wheat always go down easy.

The food is excellent as far as "bar food" goes. It is easy to see how it has been around for so long. I get carry out from here about every month and a half or so. It gets a bit loud and chaotic inside sometimes, but it is still worth the visit.

Great beer, great food, great atmosphere and good service. Its a casual place where you can relax with freshly brewed beer and food that compliments the drink. The service is good as well. I usually get the golden lager, which has a distinct wheat flavour and not very hoppy just how I like it. My husnabd loves the IPA, which is deliciously hoppy. Fridays is all-you-can-eat fish and chips and on weekends the appetizers are half off. I tried the fish tacos, chicken wings, the grilled slamon on various visits and it was always great. Its our new go-to place now for a relaxed evening.

Just went to celebrate hubby's birthday last weekend-we all had different things from burgers to ribs to the captain crunch chicken-everything was great!! And of course, ALL of the beer choices are wonderful too!!

Good beer, great food! Had a fantastic stout, the lager was ok, and the Oktoberfest was hoppier than most. However, good overall with the Stout boosting the beer rating. Had some great fajitas as well. Steak cooked perfectly to order, sizzling hot, and the fixings were excellent. Service staff was friendly and attentive. I noticed they learned the names of regulars as well. If you're in the area stop by!

I've been eating at CJ's for about 10 years now, and as a resident of Commerce Township I am VERY grateful to have such an excellent restaurant and brewery in my backyard. First and foremost, the beer at CJ's is excellent. Even if you come in for a casual drink, you won't be disappointed. They typically have 5-6 beers on tap, ranging from an American golden ale to dark stouts, and a rotating seasonal selection (sometimes more than one). You can order by the pint, or join the mug club for a 22 oz. mug at the same price. My favorites are the Rich-Hagg Red and Lower Straits Stout. Besides great beer, CJ's is an excellent restaurant. I would classify the service as average at best, but it is all part of the experience. The service isn't necessarily slow. In fact the food usually comes out pretty quick. But the wait staff seems to miss on basic details, like providing silverware BEFORE your food arrives or refilling drinks. Mediocre service aside, the food itself is great. They have a good size menu with food ranging from burgers/sandwiches to steaks, pizza, pasta, soups and salads. They have a great selection of appetizers too. The pizza is probably my favorite (deep dish of course). I would actually rate CJ's pizza better than Buddy's, hands down. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious. They have a nice size bar area overlooking the brewery and a great (although quite small) outdoor seating area that overlooks a golf course. They have some arcade games and darts, and often have live entertainment on the weekends. If you live in the Commerce area, you probably already know how great CJ's is, but if you don't you should definitely give it a try. It is well worth the short drive up M-5.

We go to this place all the time (even though it's only A-OK) and we are Mug Club members. The Mug Club is a great deal, you $4 beers for $2.50. It's a family-style, sports bar that brews its own beer. It's a nice comfortable place to just chill out after a long week of work. Good neighborhood hang-out. Beers are quite decent. The Stout was mellow with a rich chocolate flavor and the Bat 33 IPA was a solid hoppy beverage, a good standard IPA. The food here is up and down. On this visit my husband the CJ Twist which was pretty good but the special sauce was not all that special. I got the Southwest salad which was good, not outstanding or special but tasty with lots of meat. We have always been happy with their standard fare. It's best to stick to the wings, burgers, and pizza here.

I had their IPA and a burger. I really enjoyed their beer. The burger was good too. Nothing spectacular for me as far as taste, but didn't let me down either. Their IPA was very good. I would go back again for sure.

Being only a mile from my house, this is one of our "go-to": restaurants. Over the years we have had nearly everything on the menu and I can't recall one time that we were disappointed. Everything is great but the deep dish pizza and house brewed beers are stand outs on the menu. We frequently get carry out pizza from CJs as well and when the weather is right, the outdoor seating is perfect.

I still like CJ's, but I'm concerned about their pizza. The pizza used to be excellent, but the last few times I've been there it appears the cheese has changed. I would really like to see them go back to real cheese, it's just not making the cut for me right now. On the other hand, the beer is still excellent! I don't know how they do it, being a small brewing option and all, but it is sooo good. Especially the red!

My family had a sizable party (about 15 people) in the back room of this restaurant. First of all, my mom and aunt had researched places in the area to have this event, and CJ's does not charge for the space; other places do for groups under 30 and things like that. So this was obviously a good choice. It was also a good choice because of the food! They had a nice arrangement of appetizers (artichoke dip, chicken fingers), then a massive salad and then 4 pizzas (square type), the favorite being the chicken with onion and spicy peppers. I must admit that I do not drink beer, but I had some of their home-brewed root beer, which was serviceable. Of course the crowd was big and noisy -- too bad there wasn't a barrier/door between the room and the restaurant proper, though the rest of the place seemed pretty loud too. Two long tables accommodated the group; there was enough space in the room that mingling was comfortable and yet the tables fit as well. Our waitress was Kelly, and she did a fabulous job keeping up on the needs of the crowd (drinks etc.), as well as weaving her way through the forest of tall people (my family is not height challenged, while she was somewhat shorter :P). Overall, great job on what must be a taxing event for a server. Obviously I did not experience the regular CJ's dining experience, but based on this sampling of the food and service I would definitely return when in the Commerce area.

Great pizza ! We prefer the round, but occassionally get the deep dish. I like their cajun chicken salad, too. The salad dressing is spicy and delicious!!!

Ok, I debated between 3 and 4 stars, but I decided on four. We will definitely be going back there, the food and drink were good, and the service was excellent, so why not four stars? The pizza was good. Like everyone else seemed to be eating, we got deep dish. The server also recommended it. It was good. I mean, not like best pizza ever, but certainly very good. Better than I expected at a run of the mill place. The beer was good. I had the Common (a seasonal). It was very good to excellent for the style. I also had the red, it was ok. My wife had the Golden Ale and she loved it. The service was really, really good, particularly for an average priced restaurant on a Friday night. The server definitely could have been working at a really expensive place, and treated us like it.

Tried this place for the first time last weekend and we decided it's worth coming back to. I'm not sure if we caught a special or something, but our small pizza came out the size of an 8-square from Buddies and quite tasty. The toppings were all finely diced which I found odd, definitely a departure from every other pizza I've had in recent memory. I also sampled the available beer; all their basics and a few seasonals and wasn't really blown away by any of them. The waitress described the mainstream equivalent of each and they were disappointingly spot on... Bud Light, Killians, etc with a little more body. The others really were not bad for someplace with good food and a clean family friendly atmosphere.

I'd been here several times for happy hour with co-workers, but hadn't ventured much past chips and salsa and a few summer brews until last night. We headed out for dinner- my husband, our toddler, and my dad- at about 6pm on a Friday. I would like to say this place is underrated, but every time I've been there it's been absolutely packed. They told us the wait would be about 25 minutes, but we were seated in under 10. Our waitress was very friendly, prompt, attentive but not pushy...just the way any restaurant staff should be. We started with drinks- an American Wheat for my dad and me and a Winter Brew for my husband- and an order of pub nachos. These things were HUGE but super tasty and we plowed through them just in time to receive our orders. My husband and dad both got the all you can eat fish and chips (the regular Friday night special) and I went with a wrap. The food was quick, yummy, and very filling. The fish looked great. Definitely much more fish than breading, which is very often not the case. We had 2 empty growlers to get refilled, which ended up being around $11 a piece. If you have them filled on Tuesday, it's half price, meaning you get about 4-5 drinks for the price of one. You can't beat that with a stick! Highly recommend for beer, food, atmosphere, kids (it's loud, so they can be as loud as they want) and take home beverages.

I love food. There is no question of that. I am. however, incredibly picky about pizza. Its just not my thing.... unless I am at CJ's. All of their food is good, but the pizza and beer is fantastic! Being that it is also a brewery, the beer is fresh and delicious, my favorite being the summer wheat beer (with fruit). There isn't much to say about CJ's other than its a great little restaurant and brewery that has developed a pretty strong following over the years it has been there. We now drive about 25 min to get there and its worth every second.

My husband is a huge micro brew fan so I thought this was perfect to try. From the looks of the packed parking lot I thought we would have to wait. That was not the case, it is larger inside than I thought. We were seated immediately and the waitress came over right away. She explained their beer and was very knowledgeable. I went with her recommedation and was very happy. However, next time I would go first to the sample platter of beer. Then get a larger pint after figuring out which one to have next. They have so many good beers that it is too had to decided right away. The wait staff was great, friendly and knowledgeable about their beers. It was a nice time spent talking, having good beer and enjoying the food. Our first date in years and well worth it! We will definitely be returning.

I have been going to CJ's Brewing Company on and off since 2002. Sometimes just for one of their house made beers, and other times for their 1/2 off appetizers during happy hour, or their yummy pizza for dinner. Their brews are pretty good. My favorites are the Golden or the Wheat Ale. The wraps are tasty, along with their bar-b-que chicken pizza which is one of my favorites over most pizza joints. The only reason I wouldn't give it five stars is because the service is not the quickest. Usually it is being manned by teenagers or very young adults and there seems to be a pretty high turn-around for employees. It is a good place to watch "the game" or have a large group. Not the most intimate or good for a date or private conversation. The have a decent sized private room off the back that is good for groups and usually available with very little notice.

Had a lunch meeting at CJ's today and enjoyed it. Place has a great blend of IPA's, specialty brew like Peach Saison, and several others. Chief brew master JT says he tries new recipes all the time and he's good and knowledgeable. Food was spot on. Try the chili & ask for extra onions. I had the pork chops today and they were lean and mean. Great service by Nicole, I will definitely come back to try other dishes. The captain crunch chicken sounded great but it's Thursday, not Sunday, and there are rules.

For starters, they were out of the 2 different beers we ordered, & it took awhile to find that out. The ribs were great, cooked in beer awesome sauce, the fries were perfection. ..crisp, not over done. Mushroom burger was good. Not too pleased with the lager, though.

Just go with your pub instincts and get pizza and beer. I came with the boy and two friends and we split a square CJ's supreme pizza, jambalaya, and chili. The jambalaya and chili seemed appetizing on a cold day, but the pizza prevailed as the most satisfying. It served up the saucy, savory, greasy flavors for which one craves pizza, plus I always enjoy the crustiness of a square shaped pie.

Gotta say the food is awesome and their beer is just as good too! Had the double IPA as well as nachos and boneless wings (Sunday is buy one get one for boneless wings, FYI) and it was all delicious! There's not one thing I don't like about this place and even the staff is accommodating and attentive. Stopped in late night for an after work dinner and they even let us order with like 5 minutes prior to the kitchen closing. Thanks CJ's!
